‘Hamas is not part of Dahlan, Abbas dispute’

Official Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Salah Al- Bardawil, yesterday reiterated that his movement is not part of the disputes between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas and his rival Mohamed Dahlan, Quds Press reported.

“Those who want to link the release of the Fatah leader Zaki Al-Sakani from prison in Gaza and allowing him to travel for treatment with a deal between Hamas and Dahlan were tricked,” he said.

He stressed that there is no deal, noting that Al-Sakani had spent more than two-thirds of his term and was released two months before his travel to Egypt, where tens of followers of dismissed Fatah leader Mohamed Dahlan live.

Al- Bardawil reiterated that Hamas does not have “any interest” in the dispute between Abbas and Dahlan as both of them are “partners” regarding the Oslo Accords and “we have many political and security difference with them”.

In addition, he said: “Those who claim that we had a deal with Dahlan just wanted to evade their political responsibilities and blamed others for their failure.”

He also expressed his surprise regarding the reason of the “hostile” stances that Fatah takes against Hamas. “We do not understand the secret behind the common hostile attitude that Fatah’s leaders adopt towards Hamas,” he said, “however, this is the outcome of Oslo.”

The Hamas leader called for Fatah to unite and join the Palestinians in fighting the Israeli occupation, stressing that Hamas does not have any hostility with any Palestinian group. “Hamas’ sole enemy is the Israeli occupation,” he said.
