Israel closes probe into killing of Palestinian brothers

October 27, 2016 at 11:47 am

An investigation into the killing of two Palestinian brothers at the hands of Israeli soldiers was closed yesterday, Quds Net reported.

The Israeli Public Prosecution closed the cases which were looking into the deaths of Maram Abu-Ismail, 24, and her brother Ibrahim, 16, at the Qalandia checkpoint, north of occupied Jerusalem, on 27 April.

The two Palestinians were wounded and left to bleed to death at the scene of the incident.

Israeli media reported the Israeli army spokesperson claiming that the brother planned to carry out a stabbing attack.

However, videos and pictures of the killings went viral on the internet and showed the brothers posed no danger as they did not have knives and were shot from a distance of about 20 metres. Following the uproar, Israeli authorities said they would investigate the incident.

The Israeli Public Prosecution said it closed the investigation because one of the soldiers was not guilty and there was insufficient evidence against the other.
