Sudan insists territorial dispute with Egypt is ‘not an issue’ compared to other regional crises

The president of Sudan has insisted that the territorial dispute with Egypt over the Halayib and Shalatin Triangle is not an issue compared to other major regional crises, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported on Friday. Nevertheless, Omar Al-Bashir said that his country would never concede the land. He pointed out that the issue is raised in every meeting with the Egyptians.

Interviewed in the Saudi city of Madinah Al-Munawara, Al-Bashir noted that there is a regional and international threat endangering the whole region. This makes the issue with Egypt over the Triangle a “minor point of discussion” during any meeting, although his government recognises that the Egyptians may think otherwise.

Meanwhile, the president said that his country had been seeking to unite the Libyans in order to be able to protect their country from terrorism and other security issues that directly affect their neighbours.
