Palestinians react to Trump victory

November 9, 2016 at 1:50 pm

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responded to Donald Trump’s election victory by urging the president-elect to work towards establishing a Palestinian state.

Abbas spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP: “We are ready to deal with the elected president on the basis of a two-state solution and to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.”

Abu Rudeina added that failing to resolve the conflict would mean “the unstable situation will continue in the region.”

Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri told AFP that “the Palestinian people do not count much on any change in the US presidency because the US policy towards the Palestinian issue is a consistent policy on the basis of bias.”

“Nevertheless, we hope that US President Trump will re-evaluate this policy and rebalance it on the Palestinian issue,” he added.
