Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane announced today that a coup attempt was made against the Justice and Development Party that won parliamentary elections in October.
In a recording broadcast on the party’s official website, Benkirane explained that a group who rejected the results of the elections attempted to overthrow the government. He further explained that an attempt had been made earlier.
The second coup attempt was made after the election of the president of the House of Representatives. Benkirane blamed the attempts on parties who wish to hinder the formation of the new government, mentioning new Secretary-General of the Liberal Party, Aziz Akhenouch.
Had the attempts occurred earlier it would have succeeded in creating confusion and prevented the will of the citizens who granted the Justice and Development Party 125 seats, Benkirane explained.
