Egyptian authorities confiscated assets of 46 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) members and supporter as well the as assets of five companies affiliated to the group, a government body announced yesterday.

According to Quds Press, the government committee, which was formed in January 2014 to run the assets of MB members, supporters and companies, said that the five companies are involved in trade, construction and pharmaceuticals.

The committee, which is affiliated to the justice ministry, revealed the name of only one of the 46 people whose assets were confiscated, noting he is the former head of the pharmaceutical union, Mohamed Abdul-Jawad.

Since the formation of the committee, which followed a ruling to outlaw the MB, the assets of 1,370 people and 1,125 companies and charities have been confiscated.

In January 2016, the committee said that it confiscated assets and changed the administrations of 105 schools, 43 hospitals and 19 exchange companies.

The move is part of the Egyptian authorities’ crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.
