Daesh executes colonel in Yemen

November 24, 2016 at 9:43 pm

A suspected Daesh militant shot a Yemeni colonel on the street in the port city of Aden and used a headcam to film the assault.

The footage of the execution of Colonel Abdul Rahim Aldhalaa surfaced on social media showing the Aldhalaa close to his home in the Abdulaziz neighbourhood of the Mansoura district.

The security official also worked at Aden airport in the same district.

In the past few months Aden has seen a wave of bombings and shootings targeting officials and security forces. Terrorism in Aden generally increased after the province was liberated from Houthi and Saleh militia forces.

The lack of security in Aden created a security vacuum, which enabled sporadic Daesh and Al-Qaeda attacks.

Yemen, which is the Arab world’s poorest country, has been wracked by chaos since late 2014, when the Houthi group overran its capital city Sana’a and other parts of the country.

Nearly 60,000 people have been killed as a result of the conflict and more than three million have been displaced.
