Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday called on the Islamic world to stand up in the face of the West’s “double standards” toward Islamic countries pointing out that US Congress has passed the JASTA bill against Saudi Arabia, and now plans to impose sanctions against Kuwaiti institutions for allegedly supporting terrorism.

Erdogan made his remarks during the opening session of the 32nd meetings of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul.

“I think the Islamic world countries should raise their voice in the face of double standards and acts that harm our people. We can no longer afford to allow Western countries to hold the Muslim world responsible for its crises and pitfalls,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish president said the US Congress has recently passed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism (JASTA) bill to punish Saudi Arabia for the September 11 2001 attacks and now intends to impose sanctions on Kuwaiti institutions for allegedly supporting terrorism.

Erdogan has also called to apply the preferential trade agreement between members of the OIC, saying it will contribute to increasing solidarity among Islamic countries and will double trade between them.
