The son of US president-elect Donald Trump has held private talks with pro-Russia activists in Paris, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The meetings were held last month and the agenda included discussions about how America might cooperate with Russia to bring an end to the war in Syria.

According to the Journal, Donald Trump Jr. met in the Ritz Hotel with 30 people in a gathering organised by a French think tank. The group’s founder, Fabien Baussart and his wife Randa Kassis, have worked closely with Russia to try to end the conflict.

“I think that Donald Jr. is very pragmatic and flexible,” Kassis remarked on her official Facebook page in a post about the Paris meeting. “Syria’s opposition have hopes that the political process will move forward and [that] Russia and the US will reach an accord on the issue of the Syrian crisis, because of Trump’s victory,” she added.

“Such hope and belief is the result of my personal meeting with Donald Trump Junior in Paris in October.”

The newspaper pointed out Trump Senior’s repeated remarks about his desire to work closely with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Syria and to coordinate in the fight against the Daesh extremist group.
