Two Moroccans are still at the top of a transmitter aerial outside the capital Rabat in protest at the alleged confiscation of their land by the local government; a third came down after his dispute with authorities over the withdrawal of his trading licence was solved in negotiations, Anadolu has reported. The protest has lasted 10 days so far.

In a statement, Rabat Province said that the relevant authorities are still trying to persuade the remaining protesters to come down from the aerial. The provincial statement pointed out that the protesters had overstepped the mark in their action and are making “unbelievable” demands over their “alleged rights”. It is said that they are asking for compensation of 1.2 million Moroccan dirhams, about $118,000.

Despite the “serious and reasonable suggestions” based on humanitarian considerations, said a provincial spokesperson, “two out of the three protesters have continued their protest.”
