The immigration official for the city of Berlin, Engelhardt Mazinke has said that the German capital rejects 50 per cent of all immigration requests submitted by Egyptians.

Mazinke told Berliner Zeitung newspaper: “We do not accept asylum, except in cases of wars and conflicts, not on economic need” adding that if any Egyptian wants to apply for asylum, he is deported to France or England which has been the norm for decades.

“There have been no Egyptian refugees in Berlin during recent years,” he added.

In response to news stories focusing on terrorism Mazinke said: “If the government receives information about planned terrorist act, whether inside or outside of Germany, it communicates with the concerned countries, because terrorism is an international action and States should not think of their personal interest only.”
