Israel prevents burial of Palestinian woman in Jerusalem cemetery

December 6, 2016 at 2:02 pm

Israeli occupation forces prevented the burial of a Muslim Palestinian woman in the Islamic cemetery of Bab Al-Rahmah on Monday, Arabs48.com has reported. The cemetery is adjacent to the eastern wall of the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa.

The occupation soldiers told the Palestinians who took part in the funeral procession that the cemetery land has been confiscated by the Israeli nature authority. The soldiers closed the gate and prevented the burial from going ahead.

Neighbours and relatives of the dead woman stood with her body for two hours trying to get past the soldiers, but they refused to let the cortège go into the cemetery. According to the daughter of the deceased, her father, brother, uncle and aunts were all buried in this particular cemetery without any restrictions.

During her final days, the dead woman had told her daughter that she hoped to be buried near to her husband’s grave. “That hope was dashed by the oppression of the Israeli occupation,” said her daughter.
