Emirati student shot dead by US police

December 7, 2016 at 9:16 pm

An Emirati citizen was shot and killed after he crashed his car and proceeded to struggle with an Ohio police officer, officials said yesterday.

Twenty-six-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, a student at Case Western Reserve University, was killed as a result of a gunshot wound to the head on Sunday. His death has officially been ruled as a murder, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office said.

In the last hours of his life, Alameri was found driving erratically at around 15.00. By the time the police were informed, he had already lost control of his car, which then flipped over and fell into the woods.

After an alleged confrontation with police, Alameri was shot dead by the officer who found him.

The officer, who has not yet been identified, has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy in Washington are currently following up on the case.
