Lieberman: We knew of Iran’s links to German submarine company

December 7, 2016 at 12:45 pm

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel knew about the relationship between Iran and the German company manufacturing submarines for the Israeli navy.

Lieberman’s remarks came during a meeting of the Knesset’s foreign affairs and security committee, Israel Radio reported.

Lieberman said the issue did not affect Tel Aviv’s decision to make the deal as it did not have any other options. He pointed out that Iran does not have any authority over the deal and does not have access to any information about the submarines.

Last week, Ynet News reported that the Iranian Foreign Investment Company (IFIC) holds a near five per cent share in the German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the manufacturer of submarines for Israel, noting that the IFIC is the Iranian government’s main avenue for investing abroad.
