PA calls on US to save two-state solution

December 7, 2016 at 5:31 pm

The Palestinian Authority (PA) yesterday called on the American administration to translate its verbal stances into realities regarding its support for the two-state solution and stopping illegal Israeli settlement, a statement said.

Issued by the PA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the statement said: “We request the United States to save the two-state solution and stop Israeli settlements by recognising the State of Palestine and supporting a UN Security Council resolution against settlements.”

The statement was issued in the wake of the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a bill that retroactively legalises Israeli Jewish outposts built on private Palestinian lands in the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to the statement, the approval of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of this bill comes in the context of the Israeli right wing’s attempts to control Israel and impose its “dark and extremist ideology” via approving “racist laws”.

The PA condemned the Israeli bill and hailed the international criticism of illegal Israeli settlements, specifically the remarks of the US Secretary of State John Kerry, who accused the Israeli occupation government of undermining peace opportunities and the two-state solution.

However, Kerry’s remarks came too late, the PA statement said, blaming the Israeli government for the “stalemate of peace talks and damaging peace opportunities”.
