US agrees to sell TOW missiles to Morocco

The US State Department has announced its final approval of a deal to sell TOW anti-tank missiles to Morocco costing $107 million.

The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement that the State Department approved the Moroccan government’s request to buy 1200 TOW 2A missiles, along with all of the related engineering, technical and logistics support services.

The agency also noted that the approved deal will help the non-NATO ally strengthen its ground military capabilities, adding that the Moroccan army will not have any difficulties integrating these arms into its war arsenal.

The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency also stated the principal contractors involved in this programme are: Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Arizona.

Although the State Department approved the deal after discussing it with the Department of Defence, the Republican-controlled Congress theoretically has the ability to halt the execution of the deal.

Morocco is considered one of the North African countries that spends the most on arms.
