A suicide bomber killed 12 Yemeni soldiers and wounded at least 20 others at a base in the city of Aden, a medic at the scene and government officials said, in another attack on what seems to be government forces of the Hadi government.

The attacker blew himself up as the troops were waiting to collect their salaries, the government sources added.

Daesh militants as well as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) have repeatedly claimed responsibility for deadly attacks on troops in the southern port city, which is under the control of the internationally recognised Hadi government, currently in exile in Saudi Arabia.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Houthi rebels allied with forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh against government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, along with local tribes and resistance forces backed by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition.

Nearly 10,000 people have been killed as a result of the conflict with millions displaced as a result of the fighting.
