Egypt’s Grand Mufti survives assassination attempt

December 12, 2016 at 4:17 pm

Egypt’s Grand Mufti Ahmed Al-Tayyeb recently survived an assassination attempt, Minister of Culture Hilmi Nimnim has revealed.

In remarks to CBC Extra, Nimnim said that two suspects have been linked to the cathedral bombing which took place yesterday morning.

“The first suspect is Adel Habbara who was sentenced to death yesterday in the Rafah II case, while the other suspect has been recently pardoned and freed from jail. He is believed to have carried out the attack based on instructions he received from terrorist groups in prison,” Nimnim said.

Terrorist groups are taking advantage of popular celebrations to carry out their operations and undermine the country’s stability, he added.
