Saudi denies incentives for citizens undergoing kidney transplants in Egypt

December 14, 2016 at 3:45 pm

The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Cairo has denied media reports claiming the kingdom would pay some $75,000 for Saudi patients who undergo kidney transplants in Egypt.

In a statement, the embassy expressed its surprise at the news which it described as “baseless”.

It called on media outlets to contact the embassy’s media department before posting any news regarding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to preserve its credibility.

Relations between Egypt and Saudi have been strained since Cairo voted in favour of a Russian-backed UN resolution on Syria that did not include calls to stop the Aleppo bombardment which Riyadh opposed.

Subsequently, Egypt was informed by the kingdom that oil products shipments under a $23 billion aid deal had been halted indefinitely.
