PFLP demands end to Abbas-Israel normalisation meetings

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has called on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to stop his normalisation meetings with Israel. The movement described the president’s meeting with an Israeli delegation this week as a continuation of the “destructive approach” which is rejected by the Palestinians, and a “clear violation” of the national consensus resolutions.

“We cannot remain silent about the continuation of these futile meetings, which will only bring our people more woes and misfortunes,” said the PFLP in a public statement on Wednesday. “There is no justification for the continuation of these meetings with the occupation, especially since the last meeting was attended by a group of Zionist war criminals who stained their hands with the blood of our people.”

The statement called for a popular, national and factional position on the PA’s role in the normalisation of relations with the Israeli occupation authorities as well as the tarnishing of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) achievements.

The PFLP made its comments following a meeting between Mahmoud Abbas and an Israeli delegation at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Tuesday evening during which he stressed on the need to continue communication with various segments across Israeli society. According to the official Palestinian news agency, the Israeli group included a number of former ministers and members of the Knesset (parliament).
