A ten-year-old girl who was critically wounded in the suicide bombing at a Cairo church last week, has died of her wounds, Egypt’s state news agency confirmed today.
Maggie Mamoun was severely injured in the attack and pictures of her smiling face quickly circulated where she became the human face of the tragedy.
Her death raises the death toll from the attack to 27 killed. Daesh sympathisers claimed responsibility for the bombing, though authorities initially placed blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood group.
Mamoun’s funeral will be held today at the church where the attack took place, the MENA news agency reported.
The attack was the worst recorded for Coptic Christians in Egypt, who make up nearly ten per cent of the population.
