Palestinian Authority (PA) Ambassador Hael Al-Fahoum yesterday condemned the assassination of drone engineer Mohamed Al-Zawari in Tunisia, noting that his embassy is awaiting the results of the official investigation into his death, agencies reported.

Al-Fahoum described the assassination as a crime, but said the PA is awaiting the findings of the official investigation in order to issue an official statement about the incident.

Mohamed Al-Zawari was born in 1967 in Sfax and was assassinated in front of his home on 15 December.

The PA ambassador did not rule out the involvement of Israeli intelligence services in the assassination. “This is not strange about the Israeli occupation which has carried out several previous assassinations against Palestinian leaders,” he said.

Official Tunisian sources said that the authorities had arrested eight Tunisian citizens related to the assassination, noting that the Tunisian security services are still searching for another Tunisian and two others, including a Moroccan and Belgian, who are also expected to have been involved in the murder.
