Algeria’s Justice and Development Front and Ennahda movement signed a merger agreement yesterday.

The head of the Justice and Development party, Abdullah Jaballah, signed the agreement on behalf of his party with Mohamed Douibi, secretary-general of the Ennahda movement in Algiers.

Jaballah said during the signing ceremony: “I hope the governing authority in the country will not consider this project a threat.”

“The merger is not a threat to anyone, but aims to serve the community and the state,” he said.

“My hand is extended to the Movement for the Society for Peace, the Front of Change, and the National Construction movement,” Douibi said.

“Our project is a historic achievement,” he added.

The parties intend to partake in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April on the joint list.
