Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) raised concerns over terrorism and the increase in Islamophobia at a conference attended by the information ministers of member states.

A declaration issued at the conclusion of the ministers’ meeting in Jeddah yesterday stressed that terrorism has no religion and is not exclusively associated with a specific nationality or place.

It condemned all manifestations of violence, extremism, fanaticism and terrorism.

The declaration also praised the role of the media in Muslim countries that exposed the brutal aggression of Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and urged media agencies to continue to highlight the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people and to defend them until the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Director of the Information Department at the OIC General Secretariat, Maha Akeel, said that the 11th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held under the theme “New media to counter terrorism and Islamophobia”.

The conference addressed several other issues notably the role of the media in OIC member states in supporting the cause of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
