A businessman in Saudi Arabia has saved an Indian worker from execution, the Saudi Gazette revealed on Wednesday.

Farm worker Shayarbu Limbadri was sentenced to death eight years ago for killing a Saudi colleague during a quarrel.

As the date set for his execution finally approached, businessman Awad Bin Guraiah Al-Yami intervened. He asked the family of the victim to pardon the killer and offered to pay SR1.3 million as diyah (blood money).

The family accepted the payment and pardoned the murderer, in a move endorsed by a Saudi court. Limbadri is now waiting to be released from prison.
