Hamas announced yesterday that it would take part in the preparatory meeting for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) due to take place in Beirut on Tuesday, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Speaking to Anadolu, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasim said that his movement had decided to take part in the preparation meeting for the PNC after discussing the issue with the different Palestinian factions.

On Sunday, head of the PNC, Salim Al-Zanoun, invited Hamas to the preparation committee due to be held on 10 and 11 of January in Beirut, Lebanon.

In a statement reported by Anadolu, Al-Zanoun said: "The invitation for the meeting came after a series of discussions among the Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad."

According to Al-Zanoun, the upcoming meeting would complete the discussions regarding holding a PNC summit.

The PNC is the PLO's parliament.
