January 11, 2017 at 1:55 am

The Qatari National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammad Al-Emadi, denied on Tuesday reports about building a new Qatari embassy in Gaza, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported. He described the statements circulated in the media as “groundless”.

In a statement released by Palestine Online on Tuesday, Al-Emadi stressed that the Qatari government had planned to build a representative office for Gaza Reconstruction Committee to oversee on the enclave’s projects implementation.

He noted that the projects in the besieged Gaza Strip and West Bank are implemented in full coordination with the Palestinian Unity Government, headed by Rami Hamdallah.

On Monday, Qatar decided, during a meeting of the Qatari committee for Gaza reconstruction, to build an embassy in Gaza, according to Ma’an News Agency.

In 2015, Qatar announced its commitment to implement a number of strategic reconstruction projects in Gaza, pledging $400 million from Qatari reconstruction funds to the Gaza Strip.
