A correspondent from Alghad news channel in Khartoum has reported the release by the Sudanese authorities of four prominent opposition leaders. They were arrested during a security campaign to reduce the calls for protests after the government revealed an austerity plan, said Mohieddin Jibreel.

According to Jibreel, the opposition in Sudan has pointed out that there are a number of detainees still being held in government detention centres. Demands for their release are ongoing. One of those still in detention, it is believed, is the Chairman of the Sudanese National Congress Party, Omar El Digeir.
