The Palestinian factions which took part in reconciliation dialogue in Moscow have proposed that Russia should host an international peace conference for the Palestine-Israel conflict, Moheet.com has reported.

“We think that Russia is able to reach a new global framework for the solution of the conflict,” explained Qais Abdul Karim, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. “We hope that Russia hosts a peace conference in Moscow in the coming months because we want Russia to have a big role in making the future.”

Representatives of most of the Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, met in Moscow from Saturday to Tuesday at Russia’s invitation. The meeting was hosted by the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Vitaly Naumkin, the head of the institute, hosted a similar meeting in 2011. He said that this “non-official meeting” was aimed at “overcoming the internal Palestinian division.”

Prior to the talks, Naumkin told Sputnik: “It is important that the meeting should focus on the joint platform, whether the Palestinians can come to agreement on the common platform or at least requirements that are uniting the factions.” He added that Moscow wants Palestinian unity and consensus on a joint platform, at least.
