The Yemeni Ministry of Education has stopped students’ scholarships to Iran and decided not to adopt school certificates awarded by Houthis administration.

In a media statement on Tuesday, Yemeni Minister of Education, Dr Abdullah Lamlas, said his ministry has stopped scholarships to Iran because the students are fed destructive ideas devoted to sectarianism and factionalism.

He pointed out that 7,000 Yemeni students are currently receiving their education in the city of Qom in Iran.

The ministry will not also approve school certificates awarded by the Houthi group for violating the ministry’s regulations.

The minister explained that the ministry uses the GPA system where 50 per cent of the marks are awarded to school work and 50 per cent to the ministry exam, however the rebels have refused to apply the cumulative grade point average in areas they control, and therefore their certificates will not be approved.

The minister also explained that teachers who have been appointed by the Houthis after 2014 will not be paid and their appointment decisions will be cancelled while teachers who had been expelled by the rebels will return to their jobs”.
