Moroccan activists call for action against relocation of US embassy to Jerusalem

Pro-Palestine Moroccan activists have called for Arab and Islamic states to take action against the plans of US President Donald Trump to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday. The plan was described as being part of America’s clear “pro-Israel” agenda.

The Director of the Moroccan Observatory against Normalisation [with Israel], Ahmed Owhiman, called on such states “to stand up” against Trump’s proposal. He noted how important it is for everyone to bear their responsibility for this plan and send a strong message to the Americans.

Owhiman called for diplomatic action to undermine the US on this issue. He also called for human rights groups to organise protests to put pressure on their own governments to move forward in this direction.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Moroccan Initiative for Support and Advocacy said that the US embassy move would reinforce the Israeli occupation of Palestine and Jerusalem. Aziz Hannawi added that Trump would have never made such a promise if the Arab and Islamic countries were not weak and involved in regional disputes in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya. He warned that this measure, if carried out, would have dangerous consequences for the region.
