The Palestinian traffic police in Gaza destroyed more than 70 motorcycles on Sunday and around 1,000 vehicle fuel regulators which were confiscated after offences had been committed, writes MEMO’s correspondent.
According to a police spokesman, all of the motorcycles were involved in traffic accidents during 2016 and were directly responsible for the death of at least 16 civilians.
The fuel regulators, he explained, were used illegally as the owners had converted their cars to run on cooking gas instead of petrol because it is cheaper. However, this contributes towards the severe shortage of cooking gas and is illegal.
The traffic police have also started a campaign to check the validity of vehicle and driving licences.
