A Turkish musician has caused a stir as he claimed to be the biological father of British award-winning popstar Adele, and has even invited Adele and her mother to Turkey to take a DNA test to find out the truth.

52-year-old Mehmet Asar said in an interview that he had a romance with Adele’s mother Penny Adkins when she visited Bodrum in 1987, and while he was working as a taxi driver. Asar is himself a Turkish folk singer. “I toured Bodrum’s coves and Pamukkale with Penny Adkins and her friends for two weeks. At the time, we liked each other and we were together for as long as she stayed in Turkey,” Asar claimed.

“When she left, she wanted me to come with her, but I told her I wanted to stay in Bodrum, so neither of us moved away for each other. We tried to continue our long-distance relationship, but at that time, talking on the phone was expensive, so we lost touch.”

“All of this happened at the time in which Adele was conceived,” Asar said, making his extraordinary claims to Turkish media. He said his suspicions that he was Adele’s long lost father began when he noticed the resemblance between himself and Adele whilst watching her win a Grammy Award last year. He saw that her “fingers resemble” his and that her facial expressions when she sings are similar to his.

The Turkish singer then looked Adele up online to confirm his suspicions, before apparently realising that her mother is the woman he had a romantic fling with almost three decades ago. Neither Adele nor her family have commented on Asar’s extraordinary and completely unverified claims. Penny Adkins raised Adele as a single parent when her partner, believed to be a man named Marc Evans, left the family when Adele was just two-years-old.
