Turkey continues to enforce EU migrant deal, makes arrests

Turkish authorities said yesterday that they foiled an illegal migration attempt by 793 migrants and refugees who were trying to enter the country before moving onto Europe, coming from Syria, Iraq and Iran.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Turkish army said that border units stopped 767 persons from crossing the Syrian border into Turkey, in addition to 25 who were coming from Iraq and one trying to cross the Iranian border into the country.

The Turkish authorities also foiled two illegal immigration attempts from Turkey to Greece and Bulgaria, according to the same statement.

They arrested 33 persons who were trying to cross into Greece and two who were trying to cross into Bulgaria.
