Palestine’s Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has condemned remarks made by UN Secretary General António Guterres regarding a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. A spokesman for the movement, Faouzi Barhoum, described the secretary general’s remarks as “a claim that fabricates history, misleads public opinion, and a contravention of UNESCO’s resolution, which stipulate that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a Muslim holy site in which Jews have no right.”

Barhoum charged Guterres of endorsing Israel’s radical, racist policies, and legitimizes the Judaization of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. He said Guterres should not be biased in favour of the Israelis nor should he encourage their violations and extremism at the expense of Palestinians and Muslims.

Hamas condemns and rejects Guterres’ irresponsible statement and calls upon all Palestinians and parties to demonstrate greater support and steadfastness in the defence of their rights and just cause.
