Anaylsis: Why the landmine problem is far from over in the Middle East

So far, at least 114 Saudis have been killed along the frontier since the Saudi-led coalition began its operation in Yemen in March 2015. Along with deaths as a result of landmines, many soldiers have been killed as a result of firefights or rocket strikes by the Houthi militia forces. Both the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition are responsible for landmines. The Houthis are known for placing them along the Saudi border.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Houthi rebels allied with forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh against government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, along with local tribes and resistance forces backed by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition. Nearly 10,000 people have been killed as a result of the conflict with millions displaced as a result of the fighting.
