Sisi seeks Arab mandate to speak to Iran on Syria

An Egyptian minister visited Jordan to seek its support in getting Arab permission for President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to hold talks with Iran regarding Syria, sources in Jordan revealed.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a surprise visit to Jordan in attempt to garner support ahead of the upcoming Arab League summit in March, which Amman will chair, the sources told Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper.

According to the sources, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi told his Egyptian counterpart that Amman’s priority is to protect its border with Syria from any external danger, noting at the same time that the kingdom has no direct contact with Iran regarding the Syrian affair.
