Senior Iranian military leader killed in Syria

A senior Iranian military leader was killed during clashes with opposition groups in Syria, Jordan’s Assabeel newspaper reported Iranian media saying yesterday.

According to the Iranian media, the leader was as a leader of one of military sections of the Brigades of Imam Ali, affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards.

The death brings the number of Iranians who have been killed in Syria since October last year to 350.

Estimates show that Iran has lost about 1,300 soldiers in Syria since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011.

Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, Shia fighters from Afghanistan and Iraq are fighting in support of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
