The UK will continue its support for the international coalition and the training of Iraqi forces as part of the fight against Daesh, British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said today.

Fallon made his remarks during a press conference held in the Belgian capital Brussels, on the sidelines of the NATO defence ministers’ meeting.

The minister said that Daesh is losing ground, fighters and financial support.

“We should put pressure on the cities of Raqqa [northern Syria] and Mosul [northern Iraq] to deliver a knockout blow to Daesh.”

“Britain will continue its leading role by providing intelligence, launching airstrikes and the training of Iraqi forces in the areas they need,” he added.

“In Syria, where the scene seems more complex, the process to cleanse Raqqa will be completed by the spring.”
