Yemen's Houthis say they attacked a Saudi power plant with a ballistic missile

Yemen’s armed Houthi group said they launched a ballistic missile at a power plant in neighbouring Saudi Arabia.

Citing a military official, the Yemen News Agency (SABA NET) said on Sunday that Houthis fired a medium-range ballistic missile at Al-Shuqaiq power plant in Saudi’s Jizan province.

“The missile accurately hit the plant, which provides power to most of the military bases in Khamis Mushayt and Abha provinces,” added SABA NET, which is controlled by the Shiite-led Houthi group and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Houthis had announced last week that they launched a ballistic missile at the Saudi capital, Riyadh, while the group’s leader Abdel Malek Al-Huthi threatened to target sites that are located “beyond Riyadh.”

A Saudi-led military coalition was formed after the Iran-backed Houthi group took over the Yemeni government in September 2014 and launched military operation against Houthi sites in Yemen.
