Algerian minister: Libyan crisis is being complicated by attempts to solve it

There are too many initiatives aiming to resolve the Libyan crisis and these are actually complicating the situation in the war-torn country, a senior Algerian official said yesterday.

A local radio station quoted the Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, saying that the best outcome for Libya would be an initiative created by its people.

Messahel said: “Algeria is surrounded by many areas of unrest which pose security threats from the south, east and west, therefore it has developed ways to protect its borders and stability.”

He added: “Algeria is working hard to remove any threat to the country by helping the conflicting parties find a political settlement that satisfies everyone.”

“Algeria enjoys the respect of the Libyans because it does not interfere in its neighbours’ internal affairs.”
