A consultant to the European Commission said that the Egyptian foreign minister’s visit to Brussels is likely to be highly charged and fraught with sensitivities because of the nature of the controversial issues expected to be addressed during the one-day trip.

In an interview with OnTV Live, Walid Darwish said he expected Sameh Shoukry to discuss with officials in Brussels all sensitive issues related to the EU’s relations with Egypt and the Middle East.

Darwish added that Egypt’s top diplomat is meeting with 28 foreign minister as well as Federica Mogherini, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Darwish noted that the EU and Egypt cooperate on the issue of refugees, adding that Egypt can play an effective role in this regard.
