Activists and human rights organisations will launch a new electronic campaign to support the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The organisers told Quds Press that the campaign aims to expose Israeli violations of Palestinian prisoners.

Project Coordinator, Sarah Sweilem, said the campaign aims to put an end to the Israeli violations against prisons including administrative detention, solitary confinement, torture and unfair judgments, storming of prison rooms, assaulting prisoners and detention of children and trying them in military courts in flagrant defiance of international laws.

Sweilem said the campaign will be launched on 15 March for three days via Twitter using the hashtag #water_and_salt both in Arabic and in English, in reference to the prisoners on hunger strike.

She pointed out that many institutions will participate in the campaign from Palestine and abroad, including the international campaign of solidarity with prisoners in Israeli jails in Lebanon and Turkey the Palestinian Forum for Social Media/Palestine, the Arab Youth Association for Media-Palestine Branch, the Union of Islamic Networks-Palestine Branch, Uncover Zionist/ Jordan, and the General Union of Youth Bodies/Gaza.

Human rights sources estimate that there are about 7,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons including 65 women and girls.
