Egypt detains Daesh member for recruiting youth

March 17, 2017 at 3:30 pm

Egypt’s General Prosecution yesterday detained a member of Daesh on suspicion of joining a terrorist organisation and attempting to recruit Egyptian youth to fight in Libya and Syria.

The detainee allegedly confessed to receiving funding from the militant group and meeting its members in Iraq, Syria and Libya on social media websites.

Egypt has been struck by a number of attacked by Daesh affiliated groups in the Sinai. However, Human Rights Watch has criticised Egyptian authorities of fabricating their attacks on Daesh members in Sinai. Proposing that the individuals involved had already been forcibly disappeared before a counterterrorism raid was staged to cover up their murders.
