Egypt’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, have filed a lawsuit against the Minister of Justice and the General Prosecution’s freeze of their assets worth 61 million Egyptian pounds ($3.4 million).

Mubarak and his two sons alleged the continued freeze on their assets was in “defiance of the law”.

The lawsuit names Egypt’s Central Clearing, Depository and Registry Company, the Minister of Justice, the prosecutor general and East Cairo’s attorney general as the defendants.

Egypt’s Central Clearing, Depository and Registry Company has been the legal custodian of Mubarak’s family’s assets in the Egyptian stock market since the prosecutor-general ordered the asset freeze on Mubarak and his family in February 2011.

A court date has been set for 23 March.
