Islamic Jihad yesterday denied reports that its Secretary-General Ramadan Shalah had been subjected to an assassination attempt in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

“We are not aware of this news which Israel is disseminating,” spokesman of the movement, Daoud Shihab told the Anadolu Agency.

The group said Israel was disseminating the information to cover up its plans. Its spokesperson gave no further details.

Lebanese media reported yesterday evening that Shalah had survived an assassination attempt after Hezbollah-affiliated security forces arrested members of a cell who admitted to planning an attack on his Beirut office.
