International and local companies are to take part in a major mining and business forum in Sudan scheduled to open next week. The International Mining Business Forum and Exhibition will begin in Khartoum on 27 March, the country’s ministry of minerals has announced.

Thirty nine international companies and 36 local firms are taking part in the three-day event, in addition to delegations representing 100 foreign entities. According to Sudan’s Minister of Minerals Ahmed Al-Karouri, European, African and Arab countries will be represented at the event, which will provide an opportunity to promote Sudan’s capabilities in the minerals field.

The ministry announced last month that Sudan owns large reserves of more than 30 minerals, which can be utilised for trading purposes. In 2016, Sudan produced 93.4 tonnes of gold.

The forum aims to attract big companies and funding institutions, and to give Sudan the opportunity to explore the most advanced and up-to-date technology in drilling and mineral extraction.
