The artistic and literary works of Palestinian prisoners should be documented and translated into numerous languages “so that the world can learn about and from their purely human experience”, a senior Palestinian official said yesterday.

Head of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) Commission for Prisoners’ Affairs, Issa Qaraqe, commended the high-quality artistic and literary works being produced under the theme of resistance literature which represents an “integral part of the Palestinian struggle”.

The prisoners’ literature deserves attention, documentation and publication in all languages, so that the world can learn about and from their purely human experience.

The remarks came during a cultural seminar organised by Ministry of Culture in the Ein As-Sultan refugee camp in occupied Jericho. The event was attended by a number Palestinian officials, ex-prisoners and members of the community.

“They preserved their national identity through their steadfastness and unity, and their defiance of the policy of cultural obliteration they face in prison,” he added.
