Egyptian security forces in the western province of Gharbia dismantled a bomb inside the Mary Girgis church in Tanta on Wednesday evening.

Al-Najda police received reports that a bomb had been discovered inside the Mary Girgis church on Ali Mubarak Street. The street was closed on both sides.

Explosives and civil defence experts arrived on the scene and worked to dismantle and neutralise the explosive without causing casualties or damage.

Egypt has seen a rise in attacks especially against Christian Copts following the ouster of the first democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup in 2013.
