Egypt’s Sisi leaves Arab summit as Qatar Emir begins speech

Activists on social media praised Al-Sisi’s departure while Egyptian TV channels stopped their coverage of the summit at the start of Hamad’s speech.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday walked out of the opening session of the 28th Arab League Summit held in Jordan as the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad, was beginning his speech.

Activists on social media praised Al-Sisi’s departure while Egyptian TV channels stopped their coverage of the summit at the start of Hamad’s speech.

Arab leaders are meeting in the Dead Sea resort in Jordan to discuss global and regional issues including the ongoing conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, the fight against terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Eighteen Arab leaders were in attendance.
